Itziar Cabanes Axpe is Full Professor in the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering at the Bilbao School of Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She obtained her PhD degree in 2001 with Extraordinary Doctorate Award. She leads the Virtual Sensorization Research Group granted by the Basque Government. Her research lines focus on the field of virtual sensors and artificial intelligence to improve manufacturing processes, robotics and healthcare applications (rehabilitation systems, smart devices for monitoring and diagnosis, etc.). She supervised 10 Doctoral Thesis and she is the author of more than 150 articles in indexed scientific journals, chapter of books and conferences, where she has been awarded with 9 prizes for the best scientific contribution. She has participated in nearly 70 international, national and regional research projects and research contracts with companies. She is also a co-author of several software and European patents applications. In addition, she is also an evaluator for Fundamental Research Projects of the Spanish Government and the AEI National Agency. Finally, she is a membership of different scientific committees, membership of the CEA-GTRob network, director of the Master Control Engineering, Automation and Robotics and the representative of Engineering and Architecture in the UPV/EHU Postgraduate Commission, among other management positions.
