She is Full Professor of Journalism at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She holds a PhD in Journalism and an Inter-University Master's Degree in Contemporary History from the same institution and teaches in Basque, Spanish and English. Throughout her academic career, she has consistently combined research, teaching, academic leadership, knowledge exchange and service to the academic community. She has been awarded four CNEAI research assessment periods, including three for research and one for knowledge transfer. Since 2016, she has served as Principal Investigator and Scientific Coordinator of Gureiker, a Type A Consolidated Research Group (GIC) within the Basque University System. She has served both as Principal Investigator and as a member of research teams in more than thirty competitive research projects funded at European, national, regional and institutional levels. She has also led and contributed to research, innovation and knowledge exchange projects in collaboration with public authorities, media organisations and other external stakeholders. Included in the FECYT Ranking of Spanish Women Researchers for her research impact in the field of Social Sciences (2025 and 2026 editions). Her research output comprises 15 authored books, 34 edited or co-edited books, 74 book chapters, 120 peer-reviewed journal articles, 181 conference papers and 14 invited lectures. She publishes regularly in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Scopus (SJR), as well as with leading international academic publishers, demonstrating a sustained commitment to Open Access publishing. Her work has received more than 3,000 citations on Google Scholar (h-index: 26). She has built an extensive record of knowledge exchange through research contracts, commissioned reports and collaborations with public authorities, media organisations, institutions and civil society organisations. She serves as an evaluator for research funding programmes, academic accreditation procedures and quality assurance agencies, reviews for numerous international scholarly journals, and sits on the editorial and scientific boards of several academic publications. She is Co-Editor of ZER. Journal of Communication Studies and regularly contributes to the organisation of national and international conferences and other scholarly events. Her teaching encompasses undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes in Basque, Spanish and English. She has supervised five completed doctoral theses, together with numerous master's dissertations and undergraduate research projects, coordinated educational innovation initiatives, and participated in international programmes such as ENLIGHT. She maintains a strong commitment to continuing professional development in higher education through the University's academic development programme (FOPU) and has received several positive evaluations (outstanding awarded) under the Docentiaz teaching quality assessment scheme. She has also held several academic leadership positions, including Academic Secretary of the Department of Journalism, Vice-Dean for Infrastructure, and Degree Coordinator for the Bachelor's Degree in Journalism.
