Abstract

Nowadays, due to the accessibility of the internet, the beginning of pornographic consumption starts at an increasingly younger age. Taking into account that affective-sexual education is not present in educational institutions and that the pornographic industry is focused on male pleasure, we find a society that perpetuates gender inequality and violence towards women. In an increasingly pornified culture, hegemonic masculinity plays a fundamental role in sustaining the patriarchal structure. This study investigates the general population’s perceptions of pornography and its effects on affective-sexual relationships. To this purpose, a questionnaire is carried out in which several aspects of pornography are analyzed: pornographic consumption, perspective on the industry, knowledge of hegemonic masculinity and the normalization of the eroticization of violence. It is concluded that the affective-sexual education currently received is scarce, and that pornography encourages the perpetuation of hegemonic masculinity.
