Resumen

This paper reports on a research project that analyzes the accounts that the leading European online media employ in Facebook. Methodology. We analyzed the digital news outlets in Europe with the highest numbers of followers. A sample of 400 media organizations spread across 40 European countries. The activity of each page and the interactivity it generated on Facebook was evaluated by studying items such as the number of people interacting (PTAT) or the engagement rate (ER). Conclusions. The study confirms the change that is occurring in the consumption of information, where old stalwarts like the BBC compete for the attention of the public with new born digital actors like Buzzfeed.
