Doctor by the Universidad del País Vasco - Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea with the thesis Aportaciones a los sistemas de alimentación con cargas discontinuas 2010. Supervised by Dr. José Miguel de Diego Rodrigo.
Jose Ignacio Garate received his degree and PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Spain, in 1994 and 2011 respectively. In his last undergraduate year, through the educational cooperation program, he received a scholarship from September 1993 to June 1994 in the R&D department of Fagor Eljuegos S.Coop. After having passed the public tests, in May 1994, he was the beneficiary of a training scholarship in New Technologies promoted by the Department of Economic Promotion of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, joining the Robotiker Technological Center (currently Tecnalia Research & Innovation) as a scholarship recipient. ) until October 1995. In 1995 he joined the R&D department of INDELEC. From that date until October 2003 he worked in various Ericsson R&D departments. During this period he was employed for two years in Sweden at the Ericsson R&D centers in Gävle, Lund and Kista. In 1999, combining professional activities, he was an Associate Professor in the Telecommunications department of the ESIDE faculty, University of Deusto, until 2003, when he joined the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU. In 2003, he participated in the creation of the manufacturing company Trelec BTC S.L.L. as a partner, performing functions of technical director until 2011. In 2011, he joined the Applied Electronics Research group (APERT). This group currently has 16 professors, 15 of them doctors, 10 researchers in training and 2 postdoctoral researchers. The research lines of this group are Reconfigurable Circuits and System-on-Chip and Control and Power Circuits for power converters. The activity of Dr. José Ignacio Garate has focused on the second line. Dr. José Ignacio's work has focused on applied research close to the productive sector, especially in the field of communications systems and power electronics, as well as active participation in social research dissemination activities as coordinator. from the Applied Technology stand at Zientzia Astea from 2014 to the current date. The scientific-technical impact of this activity has been recognized with 1 six-year period of technological transfer and another of research, and a third pending resolution. He has participated in more than 55 R&D&i projects, where he has been principal investigator in 5 of them, both in private companies and in the public sector. He has supervised 2 Industrial Doctoral Theses (one of them international). He is the author and co-author of about 21 articles in international journals, 2 articles in national journals, 26 articles in international conferences and 6 in national conferences. He is the author of 2 patents and 1 invention granted in private companies.
