Doctor by the Universidad Pública de Navarra with the thesis Genotyping and phenotyping characterisation of the phytopathogenic bacteria Erwinia Amylovora and Pseudomonas syringae 2003. Supervised by Dr. Jesús Murillo Martínez, Dr. Amaia Ortiz Barredo.

Arantza Rico is a PhD (2003) Agricultural Engineer (1997) from the Public University of Navarra and the University of Lleida, respectively. She is an aggregated professor in the Department of Didactics of Mathematics and Experimental and Social Sciences of the UPV/EHU and has belonged to that department since 2012 in the Faculty of Education and Sport (Vitoria-Gasteiz). It credits three sexenies of research. Its h index = 16 with 1019 citations (Google Scholar) Since joining the area of Didactics of Experimental Sciences, its line of research is based on the design of Teaching and Learning Sequences based on research. The research subject is the initial training of master's and master's degrees in Primary Education in great ideas of science. His works should be highlighted in the understanding of key ideas of physics and microbiology.She is particularly interested on the understanding of key ideas about Physics and Biology. She has coordinated a FECYT project about science, gender and vocation studies and she has led an Educational Innovative Project and a transference project on STEM disciplines and sustainability. She is the current coordinator of the Ecodidactic Garden in the Araba Campus within the Campus Bizia Lab initiative. She is a member of the STEAM2NET network with other members of her department and educators from the Basque public school system. She colaborates with the Basque Wikipedians Associations in their Education program. Arantza Rico previously worked in the field of plant microbiology at the Public University of Navarra (1999-2004) as a predoctoral researcher and subsequently as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford (2004-2009).
