Doctor by the Universidad del País Vasco - Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea with the thesis Redes de políticas de cuasi-institucionalización y de desarrollo y movimiento social pro-departamento Pays Basque en los territorios vascos de Aquitania (1992-2001) 2002. Supervised by Dr. Francisco Letamendia Belzunde.
Igor Ahedo (3 six-year research periods, 3 five-year teaching periods and accreditation as Full Professor) has been Director of the Department of Political Science and Administration at the University of the Basque Country between 2014 and 2018. With a degree in political sociology and a PhD in Political Science from the UPV-EHU, he has been responsible for the Official Master in Community Development of the UPV-EHU (2004-2005). He is a permanent contract professor and is a member of the University Teaching Evaluation Commission of the UPV-EHU, being responsible for the evaluation of the teaching staff in the Docentiaz program. He has been awarded the Basque Social Reality Prize (2005) by the Presidency of the Government and his work has been published by the University of Nevada (USA) in English. He has been a researcher at the Center for Basque Studies in the USA (Nevada) and the Institut d'etudes politiques de Bordeaux. He has supervised 8 doctoral theses presented and supervises another 8, three of them with predoctoral scholarships. He is principal investigator of the Parte Hartuz group, recognized in July 2022 as a consolidated group by the Basque Government with a funding of 144,000 euros. He has participated in about twenty applied research projects on citizen participation and gender analysis being responsible for a) the participatory evaluation of the Law on Equality between women and men of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, b) two investigations on coexistence and diversity applying the intersectional perspective to the social study; or c) a community development project for 4 years in a municipality of Bizkaia. Recently he has been the coordinator of a research funded by the Ministry of Universities to detect the central nodes for the reform of the LOSU and another funded by the ANECA for the definition of the criteria in the teaching section for the evaluation of the accreditations of Titular and Catedrático/a. He has participated since 2009 (date of creation) in the research group of the UPV-EHU Partehartuz, being now its Principal Investigator. In total he has been a member of 13 research projects and 5 research groups funded through competitive processes. He has participated in 18 research contracts, being PI in 10 of them, with a joint funding of more than 300,000 EUR. He has published works in Spanish, German, French, Basque, English and Italian, including two monographs published in France and the USA. He has published 55 research articles, 25 of them in high impact journals (23 SJR and 23 JCR); 20 book chapters (6 of them in English - Peter Lang, University of Reno); 12 books (2 in Dikynson, 1 in L'Harmattan, 1 in University of Reno, 4 single-authored) and dozens of publications of divulgative character. His research career has been recognized with the A2 category in the Unibasq complementary program. Responsible for the PhD program Society, politics and culture. He has supervised 8 doctoral theses and is the director of 4 research projects that have achieved the predoctoral grant of the Basque Government. He has teaching excellence in the Docentiaz program and teaches using the project-based learning method. He is a trainer in student-centered teaching in charge of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication, the Educational Advisory Service of the UPV/EHU and the G9. He has accumulated more than 500 hours of training in teaching and has taught. He is an expert in teaching with a gender perspective and has been a guest speaker at seminars and specialized congresses. He has directed two educational innovation projects and has 3 open publications reviewed and evaluated. He has tutored 23 TFMs and 21TFGs, and coordinated 3 practices based on community-based learning.
