Abstract

The starting point of this paper is the work of the Pronunciation Committee of the Aca-demy of the Basque Language (Oñederra et al. 2015), and it aims at sharing some reflections on the normativization of pronunciation. It is clear that pronunciation rules would be sense-less if pronunciation could not be taught. In the pursuit of an oral Basque standard the most effective teaching should be based on the relations among different language levels. Several subjects that could interfere in the process are discussed such as excessive colloquialisms, borrowing, orthography, speakers’ attitudes.
