Application of active methodologies in the descriptive subject of ‘Mechanical Technology’

Resumen

Traditional teaching methods in descriptive-type subjects, in which the teaching method is based on lectures without student participation, have shown a wide margin for improvement with respect to attention time, note-taking quality, retention of exposure, etc. Although it is true that this does not mean that the expository classes should be eliminated, but rather combined with active and collaborative activities by the students. In this sense, the application of different active methodologies combined with the expository class improves the quality of the teaching provided. This is the case of online tests (Socrative), PBL (Project or Problem based learning), puzzle activities, bloom activities, collaborator activities, etc. In this paper, the active methodologies applied to the subjects in the Mechanical Technology subject (3rd year) of the Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of Vitoria-Gasteiz School at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU are explained.
