Abstract

The UN declared 2005-2014 the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, thus openly acknowledging the key role played by education in the achievement of sustainable development. In the university field, it is important to mainstream the sustainability perspective, incorporating this variables into all activities across the board: teaching, research, management and external promotion and relations. To facilitate this process, the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) has set up a Sustainability Office, which is responsible for coordinating and strengthening initiatives aimed at fostering sustainability and social commitment. Our university is working to implement a dynamic management strategy that is efficient, self- critical and based on continuous self-learning, prioritising transparency and dialogue at all times.
