Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of verb+noun Multiword Expressions (MWEs) in Machine Translation(MT). After analysing a number of Spanish MWEs and their Basque translations, linguistic data wasadded into an MT system, namely Matxin, to see to what extent it affected translation quality. Bothautomatic evaluation metrics and a human evaluation showed that MWE-specific information improvesthe system’s results.
