Resumen

This article analyzes the treatment of cannabis in the Spanish newspapers El País, El Mundo, ABC and La Razón between January 1 and December 31, 2019. Using a content analysis methodology, the sources, the authorship of the texts and the dominant thematic areas in the aforementioned newspapers are identified. The conclusions show an increase in interpretative genres (report and interview), especially in research topics and the use of specialized sources (Experts, Scientists and Institutions). In terms of subject, the analyzed newspapers give priority to information on the regulation of cannabis in different countries, as well as the jurisdiction systems that affect the use of medicinal or recreational cannabis. This is followed by Research, Health/Medicine or addictions. Likewise, there is an absence of information on addiction and dependence prevention campaigns promoted by institutions aimed at delaying the age at which cannabis consumption begins.
