Resumen

The civil engineering is the professional activity responsible for the planning, the project, the execution, the development, control and evaluation of the civil works. One of the exclusive professional competences of these engineers is the project and execution of roads and railway routes, which implies the geometric design. An important aspect of the geometric design is the transition from a straight alignment to a curve in the horizontal plane, where transition curves are used and especially the clothoid. This project is developed at the Faculty of Engineering of Bilbao (UPV/EHU), in the Civil Engineering Degree, to reinforce the concept of clothoid in the subjects «Algebra and Geometry» and «Graphical Representation I» in the first academic course. The objective has been that students know this concept to use it adequately in the subjects of higher courses, where aspects related to geometric road design are developed.
