Abstract

In the context of an investigation concerning the "media consumption of children, attentional level and perceived values in fictional characters", are presented the results obtained when analyzing the content in values and countervalues of two episodes of cartoons with different structure (narrative or non-narrative); as well as, the values and countervalues perceived by students of 3rd and 6th grade of Elementary School when viewing them. Among the results it is highlighted that the students are able to identify the values and countervalues present in the two episodes; that there are some statistically significant differences in relation to the grade and gender of the students; and, above all, that students who have seen the episode with nonnarrative structure, compared to those who have seen the episode with narrative structure perceive less number of values and countervalues. It is concluded that cartoons by their content in values and countervalues can serve as a medium for education in values; however, it is necessary to take into account the structure of these fictional content because, as shown in the study, it can influence the perception of values and countervalues.
