Abstract

The rapid development of technologies introduces smartness to all public and private institutions and communities. The application of the smartness concept to a city has gained momentum in recent years based on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to increase the quality of life of all stakeholders, including residents and tourists. Smart cities are prepared for the creation and development of ecosystems for new and more personalized services in areas such as tourism, hence, the possibility of transforming a smart city into a Smart Tourism Destination (STD). That means enhancing the tourist's travel experience before, during and after the trip. This research aims to make a self-diagnosis of the city of Bilbao in order to offer a global vision of its current situation as a Smart Tourism Destination
