Startups are particularly subject to problems related to access to traditional funding. In such circumstances, Business Angels (BAs) have become key agents of the entrepreneurial ecosystem to the extent that they are willing to finance early stages and because of their ability to transfer smart capital. Despite its importance, the empirical literature in this area is still scarce and biased. The objective of this work is precisely to start from the set of new firms in Spain that has obtained financing from a business angel. From here, we aim to know the nature and intensity of the smart capital transferred as well as the profile of these firms, taking into account variables such as the level of competence, the degree of innovation or the technology profile. To do this, it is based on a representative sample based on the survey conducted in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) research project.
