Resumen

The paper's purpose is to analyse the influence of family members' social capital working in a family firms has on nonfamily members' social capital working in a family firms. The impact of one social capital dependency on another social capital has been tested through structural equation modeling techniques. The sample consisted of 172 Spanish family firms which had at least two family members and two nonfamily members working in the family firm. Data analysis shows that family social capital has a direct and positive influence on nonfamily social capital and the relationships between some of the social capital dimensions inside each group. This research enables family firms to know which aspects of their all organization members' relationships are important to have a good atmosphere in the company. This shows that relationships between all family members are key tools in the increase of nonfamily social capital. This is the first study in analising the effects of relationships between family members on nonfamily members' relationships. This work aims to combine the influence of social capital's dimensions in each group and between the two principal groups in family firms (family members and nonfamily members). It will use an integrated model to do so.
