FRANCESCO
CARUSO

Francesco Caruso has been María Zambrano Fellow at the Department of Analytical Chemistry in the METABOLOMIPs research group of the University of the Basque Country since 2022. An analytical chemist, he was previously Head of the Analytical Laboratory at the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) from 2019 to 2023, Associate Professor of Conservation/Conservation Science at the University of Oslo from 2016 to 2019, and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at ETH Zurich from 2011 to 2016. In 2011, Francesco received a PhD in Chemical Sciences from the University of Palermo with a thesis carried out in collaboration with the V&A Museum and the Belgian Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA). Francesco has broad research interest in the field, having worked in the last years on the study of historical painting materials and the application of chemometric methods.
