Doctor by the Universidad del País Vasco - Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea with the thesis Sistema de binarización basado en fpga para ocr en aplicaciones de voto electrónico 2005. Supervised by Dr. José Luis Martín.
My professional career began in 2001 as an associate professor at UPV/EHU within the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications. Since then, my work situation has been: Full professor: 2019-02-02 → ongoing Associate Professor: 2008-10-17 → 2019-02-01 University Associate: 2001-11-14 → 2008-10-16 Since joining the UPV/EHU, I was part of the ‘Electronic Design Group.’ The main research line was the Design of Digital Architectures for Hardware Information Processing. Due to the need to give a new direction to doing research, in 2002, we created the Applied Electronics Research Team (APERT), under the direction and coordination of José Luis Martín. The current research lines of this group are Reconfigurable Circuits and System-on-Chip and Control and Power Circuits for power converters. My research activity has been focused on the first of the lines above. The group was formed with five professors, two of them PhDs, and currently has: PhD professors: 15 Non-PhD professors: 1 Pre-doctoral fellows: 10 Post-doctoral fellows: 2 During these years, the group has achieved consolidation, with participation in all kinds of projects and the publication of its research results in high impact index journals and prestigious conferences, being a research group positively valued by ANEP and recognized by the Basque Government since 2010 as group A and ratified thereafter. After obtaining the Ph.D. Degree in 2005, I developed a stage in which my research activity intensified by participating as main researcher and as a researcher in numerous projects and research contracts. In 2010, I did a research stay at Virginia Tech (United States). This year, I launched the business project System-on-Chip engineering S.L. (SoC-e S.L.) with collaborators from the research group and external collaborators from my previous professional stage as partners. As a result of my research activity, I have been awarded 3 six-year research periods. I am a member of the Apert group (group A of the Basque university system). I have participated in 56 competitive research projects (with a total budget of 8,176,264.97 €) and in 55 research contracts (with a total budget of 2,704,243.78 €), being a main researcher in 24 of them. I have directed 4 Doctoral Theses. I am author of 43 articles in international scientific journals, 4 patents and 81 contributions to international and 24 national scientific congresses. These articles have been cited more than 567 times with a h index of 16. As far as my management activity is concerned, I have held the following positions over the years: Member of the Statutory Committee of Teaching Staff of the UPV/EHU: 2021-10-04 → ongoing Head of the Department of Electronic Technology: 2020-06-29 → ongoing Member of the Statutory Committee of Teaching Staff of the UPV/EHU: 2017-10-02 → 2021-10-03 Basque Commission of the Bilbao School of Engineering: 2017-05-23 → 2021-05-22 Member of the Doctoral Program in Electronics and Telecommunications: 2016-12-01 → ongoing
