Doctor by the Universidad del País Vasco - Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea with the thesis Arquitectura para procesamiento de imágenes de muy alta definición 1993. Supervised by Dr. Gerardo Aranguren Aramendia.
José Luis Martín González graduated as an Industrial Engineer specialising in Electricity (1989) and has a PhD (1992) from the UPV/EHU where he has taught since 1989. He was Director of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (1995-2001), Deputy Director of the Bilbao School of Engineering (2001-2005), Bizkaia Campus Development Director (2005-2013), General Secretary of the UPV/EHU (2013-2017) and Vice-Chancellor for Research at the UPV/EHU (2017-2021). José Luis Martin heads the Applied Electronics Research Group (APERT) recognised by the Basque Government as having Group A status and is in charge of the PhD programme in Electronics and Telecommunications. He has supervised or co-supervised 15 PhD theses, 5 of which with PhD extraordinary prizes and one European prize. He has been a visiting professor at Drexel University (Philadelphia) and project assessor on the Framework Programme of the European Union and ANEP, among other agencies. José Luis has been part in over 100 research projects and headed 40 of them. He is the author of four patents, more than 60 articles in journals, different books and over 125 congress papers. In 2012, he was awarded the Euskoiker Research Prize in the field of Engineering and Technology for Research into new power and control circuits for energy converters projects. His research lines are Power Electronics and Systems-on-Programmable-Chips.
