Amaia de Ayala holds an international Ph.D. in Environmental Economics (March 2014) with first class honours (she received the extraordinary PhD thesis award); a Master’s degree in Economic Analysis (2009); and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics (2008) also with first class honours (she received the extraordinary B.A. award), all from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Amaia is Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication (UPV/EHU), where, from January 2018, she teaches economics both in bachelor's and master's degrees in Spanish, Basque or English. She is also Associate Researcher at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) and member of the board of directors of the Spanish Association for Energy Economics (AEEE). Her research looks at consumers’ behaviour related to climate change mitigation and adaptation, with a focus on energy efficiency and energy consumption in the household sector. She mainly use survey data, experimental methods (discrete choice experiments, field experiments, lab experiments) and qualitative research methods (in-depth interviews, focus groups).
