Doctor by the Universidad del País Vasco - Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea with the thesis Aportaciones al diseño del control jerárquico de microrredes eléctricas 2013. Supervised by Dr. Jon Andreu Larrañaga, Dr. José Luis Martín.

Estefanía Planas received the M.Sc. degree in industrial electronic and automatic engineering and the Ph.D. degree in power electronics from the University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU in 2008 and 2013 respectively. Since 2009, she was with the Applied Electronic Research Group, UPV/EHU, where she completed his pre-doctoral formation (2009-2013). Also since 2014, she has been a professor at the Department of Electric Engineering, University of the Basque Country, being as an associate profesor since 2024. APERT research team is well established, and has been positively evaluated by the ANEP and also recognized as A grade group in the 2016 call for consolidated groups supported by the Basque Government. Nowadays she supervises 2 doctoral theses and heads several research project funded by i-DE (Iberdrola group) among other enterprises. She represents the UPV/EHU at the Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub and is the director of Ekaia Zientzia eta Teknologia Journal. She is author of 10 scientific journals 25 conference communications. She has participated as a principal researcher in 6 projects and has participated as a researcher in 18 research projects. Other activities include her participation as an editor in the journal of the University of the Basque Country Ekaia.
