Abstract

Ocean wave energy can potentially fulfill 15% of the EU's energy demand, reducing CO2 emissions by 136 MT/MWh by 2050, according to the EU Energy Road Map. Similarly, the Spanish Renewable Energies Plan emphasizes Spain's marine energy potential, particularly in wave energy. Oscillating Water Column (OWC) converters are currently, the most promising for harnessing sea energy from various on-shore and floating structures. This paper presents an analytical model of the wave capture chamber for a fixed onshore OWC wave power plant, specifically tailored for the Mutriku MOWC wave power plant in the Spanish Basque Country. Validation is conducted using measured wave entry data and experimental output power from the plant.
