Resumen

Participation of women in trikitixa (musical expression formed by the diatonic accordion and the tambourine) has exponentially grown in recent decades, as it was an exclusive activity for men, like many other deep-rooted cultural phenomena in the Basque Country. Being a hindered field until the 1980s, they constitute nowadays a remarkable part of the total amount of trikitilaris (trikitixa players). Using the content analysis of different data banks, the paper shows, in quantitative terms, the increasing participation along the past decades. Besides, the article studies the accordion and the tambourine separately too, as in the increasing participation the percussion instrument has been also a way of hampering for women players.
