Abstract

This study deals whitz the history of the University or Land of Andoain (and partly of Sorabilla) before it was given the charter of a town, that is, as a village dependent on the town of Tolosa, the conflicts of jurisdiction and of all type such a situation involved, the internal organization of a university in Gipuzkoa and the duties assigned to each of its office-holders, the financia! resources the council had and the way they were administered, and the religious activity of the neighbour-hood through the study of its parish churches hermitages and fraternity. lt studies also, and far the first time, every hause and country house of that time of which documentary evidence is available, that is, their filiation and hereditary transfer in an attempt of making a historical census of a period of which no parish register has survived. The study attaches a comprehensive index of names and table of contents, as well as a photographic appendix with old photographs of the houses and country houses still existent.
