Resumen

Psilocybin is a natural hallucinogenic compound that has been shown to have potential antidepressant ejfects. However, the mechanism of action is largely unknown. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the ejfect of psilocybin on the frontal cortex monoamine extracellular concentrations using in vivo brain microdialysis technique. At the dose used (] mg/kg), no significant changes in monoamine concentration were observed. This leads to the conclusion that the antidepressant mechanism of action of psilocybin, unlike current antidepressants, does not primarily involve an increase in extracellular monoamines infrontal cortex.
