Abstract
The language is a tool for knowledge, a way of expressing cultural contents or significations apart from being a way of communication. The social focus is underlined in the acquisition process emphasizing the linguistic context where the child learns to speak. In this sence, the necessity of studying the "interaction" in the development of linguistic and communicative competence is pointed, which makes the study of the sociocultural contexts where the process takes place necessary. From this point of view, the scaffolding provided by the adult in the family and school contexts is very important. On the other hand, the coexistence of languages and cultures in a society involves a conflictive situation that requieres a political, linguistic and cultural treatment which by no means can be reduced to the problem of teaching two languages. So the bilingual educative problem in The Basque Country needs interdisciplinary studies.
