According to Roland Barthes, approaching mass/media means approaching the aesthetic of consumer society, with its functions and structures. Consumer society has attained an extraordinary improvement in the field of the new aesthetíc which has gradually turned ideology (confusion in social relations). This kind of ideology is based on the "internal discourse" .since the aesthetic forms of the phenomena (sings) are determined not only by the social organization ofthe participants in volved, but also by the inmediate condition of their interaction. In consumer society this interaction will subordinate the logic of the aesthetic to the logic of the exchange of goods. Thus, Barthes wíll try toread the codes of the ideological rhetoric relevant to mass culture, being his main purpose to replace the creative authentic languages, as contrasted to pseudo/creations and prevailing pseudo/vanguards.
