Respiración controlada para reducir el estrésestudio preliminar de su eficacia sobre el cortisol

Resumen

Se compara la eficacia sobre el estrés de una intervención psicofisiológica, «Terapia de control voluntario de la respiración» con información psicológica en un experimento controlado con placebo. Participaron 50 sujetos procedentes de un curso universitario para personas mayores de 55 años. Las variables evaluadas fueron los niveles matinales y nocturnos de cortisol salivar antes y después del tratamiento. Después de cuatro semanas las diferencias en el descenso del mismo en los sujetos en terapia de control voluntario de respiración, con información psicológica sobre el estrés y en condición placebo no fueron significativas, aunque el grupo de terapia de control voluntario de respiración mostró un descenso con un importante tamaño del efecto. Las diferencias en la disminución del cortisol variaron según el sexo. A pesar del pequeño número de sesiones, la terapia de control voluntario de respiración mostró un efecto sobre dicha hormona, disminuyendo sus niveles. Este hecho debería ser testado en diferentes poblaciones y con un número mayor de sesiones
