Abstract

From adolescence onwards, the attachment system and the sexual system are modified and must be correctly integrated. Thanks to their interaction, they can mutually enhance each other, providing well-being, but they can also hinder each other, resulting in maladaptive behaviors. Thus, there is a relationship between attachment security and protected sexual behaviors, and insecurity is associated with more risky sexual behaviors. The main objective of the present work is to provide greater knowledge of the sexual behaviors and affective relationships of adolescents and to analyze to what extent certain affective variables are related to the development of risk-free sexuality. The study involved a stratified and proportional sampling of educational centers in the Basque Country. A total of 1911 adolescents between 15 and 20 years of age participated and their sexual behavior, attachment style and willingness to take risks were evaluated. The results obtained support the hypothesis that greater attachment security is related to a lower disposition to sexual risk. These results are discussed more specifically in the discussion section.
