Transitioning from paper charts to ECDIS: a mariners’ survey

Resumen

Aunque el sistema ECDIS se diseñó para mejorar la seguridad de la navegación, la realidad muestra que, en la transición de las cartas de papel al ECDIS, se están produciendo numerosas varadas “asistidas por ECDIS”. Esto sugiere que las necesidades de los operadores no se consideraron en el momento en que se diseñó el sistema. En este sentido, se realizó una encuesta, utilizando métodos tanto cuantitativos como cualitativos, para conocer las necesidades, opiniones y preferencias de los navegantes respecto al funcionamiento del ECDIS. Los hallazgos de este estudio plantean que, para realizar una navegación segura, se hace imprescindible la introducción de mejoras en la formación así como en el diseño del ECDIS, en respuesta a las necesidades de los usuarios
