Résumé

The European Commission unveiled its proposal for a regulation on the European Health Data Space last May 2022. This regulatory tool is particularly significant for a number of reasons. The first is that it will unavoidably fundamentally alter how we handle our health data, greatly advancing concepts like interoperability or data access. Second, it marks the beginning of the nine data areas that the European institutions plan to create over the next few years. Among all the issues brought up by the Proposal, the secondary use of data for research is one that is examined in-depth in this article. In order to achieve this, we start by outlining the current system for processing health data for biomedical research. We then go over the modifications made by the Proposal. Finally, we conduct a critical evaluation of the newly proposed scenario and give some recommendations for improvements
