Abstract

This doctoral thesis analyses the reception and the Francoist censorship of the literary works of French writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette translated into Catalan or Spanish and published in Catalonia during the 20th century. The period of analysis begins with the first edition in Catalonia of a work by Colette, Sido, in the translation of Julio Gómez de la Serna, and finishes in 2000. Based on translation theories that have set out the study of translated literature, and approaches to translation from a gender-studies angle, this thesis describes the process of introduction and reception of the works of Colette in the Catalan literary system. The analysis is made on the basis of the examination of documentary material concerning the editorials and translators involved in Colette's translations, and the study of censorship reports and press articles among other archival materials.
