The aim of this paper is to describe the Método práctico de enseñar el castellano a los niños vascongados en las escuelas de Vizcaya (1883) written by Eugenio de Aranzábal, teacher of the school of Amorebieta, a village in Biscay. This book provides the teacher a useful tool to facilitate the teaching of Spanish language to Basque-speaking children from rural areas, as well as for acquiring certain knowledge of Basque language. The work is divided into three parts: a Basque-Spanish vocabulary, a group of tables of the Basque declension and some examples of Spanish and Basque verb conjugation. The structure and the contents are not original, since they are based on works of other authors. This paper analyses these influences and his contributions to the methods designed to teach Spanish language.
