Abstract

The image of journalist in the cinema is influenced by the image that is transmitted by films. Movies show the reality but, at the same time, they also build it. ¿Does the big screen show journalist’s work as it is, or does it repeat clichés with no link to reality? This article shows the results of a research project where 104 films about journalist -from the 30’s to nowadays- were analyzed, and enlists several clichés related to this profession as shown in the cinema. Some of them are confirmed, since a journalist seems to be an experimented reporter who is obsessed by his job and incapable of living in family. On the other hand, contrary to the cliché, they seem to behave quite ethically and they follow a social goal with his work.
