Abstract
The increase in asylum applications in quantitative terms has aroused the interest of various disciplines, although there continues to be a deficit from the qualitative perspective of the phenomenon. This note presents some of the main results of the study on the asylum procedure in Spain from the experience of those who request recognition of an international protection. From the objective of investigating the relationship between the applicant and the procedure, both the way in which the asylum process is experienced and its role in determining the recognition of the subjects of protection are of interest here. The main conclusion is the construction of subjectivity of the asylum seeker mediated by institutional recognition. The asylum procedure becomes here the mechanism by which the State recognizes a category of protection while constituting the axis in relation to which the subjectivity will develop.
