Abstract
The replacementof lost teeth using implants is becoming increasingly popular among patients, due to many studies supporting the predictability of the technique. However, the placement of these root analogs requiere the presence of sufficient ridge bone volume and height, a condition not met in all cases. In this context, a number of techniques have been developed to secure the required conditions, particular mention being requiered of the development in the past decade of guigeg tissue/bone regeneration procedures. In order to evaluare the efficacy and predictability of guided bone regeneration (GBR), we designed a clinical intervention study (befare-after) involving 27 patients with different maxillary bone defects amenable to GBR. The results showed the technique to be highly reliable, with success in 89.7% of cases. In turn, osseointegrationof the implantsproved successful in 93.6% of cases.
