Abstract

The Comprehensive Aphasia Test (CAT Swinburn, Porter and Howard, 2005) is a test that wasoriginally designed in English in order to assess cognitive and linguistic impairment in people withaphasia. Currently, this assessment tool is being adapted for thirteen languages of Europe, includingBasque. In this talk we will present this tool and the main issues we faced when adapting it forBasque, together with the decisions we took in order to meet those issues. The standardization of thistool, currently in progress, will promote aphasiological research in Basque, which has only recentlybegun to emerge, in addition to giving Basque speakers with aphasia the opportunity to be assessed intheir first or second language.
