Abstract

The main objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between open innovation practices and innovativeperformance. The literature suggests that open innovation is present in the processes of organization, production,commer- cialisation and is the basis for generating ideas for the development of performance.This research is based on the premises related to the collaborative innovations of public and private institutes withSmall and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The data set was obtained through the survey of field work carried out in 4individual and family companies in Castelo Branco, and analyzed through case studies.One of the main empirical results suggests that the variable collaborative innovations determine the capacity forinnovation. Another finding is that the innovation that emerges during the generation of ideas has a positive impacton economic, social and environmental performance.
