Resumen

In this paper we try to analyze the quality concept in surface styling. The kind of surfaces to work with are free form surfaces and are based mainly in NURB mathematics. They are used in the first steps in product design when the visual appearance is very important as it must be commercialized (household-electrics, automobiles, etc.). In the upper level CAD packages we can find varied tools and ways to verify the quality of the surfaces: Reflections with natural scenes, reflections with light strips and simulated reflections. Depending on the surface to analyze we can also make an analysis of the isocline curves, the cross section curves or maps of curvature. It is always necessary to look for the balance between an increase of quality and the economic viability so a quickly and truthful analysis of the surface will save us long time and efforts.
