Communication is an essential competence in health professions as Odontology that requires frequentrelation with patients to get a correct diagnosis and for good therapeutic management. In thelast report of Unibasq they recommended incorporating communication skills training, so we have designedan educational innovation project. Four departments and twenty-five professors teaching in thedegree in Dentistry are working in this project to implement this improvement. The objectives of thisproject are, on the one hand, to analyze the current situation regarding communication in the degree ofDentistry and, on the other hand, to design and implement activities using active teaching, which encouragethe participation of students.In the case of the subject called Psychology and Communication, which is taught in the secondyear and includes 6 ECTS credits, various activities and cooperative tasks have been designed usingactive methodologies. The areas that we will teach are oral communication with patients and familymembers, communication with other health professionals and communication techniques. Therefore,we design some activities to promote constructive and reflective learning including some techniques asflipped classroom, just in time teaching, peer instruction, analytic team, 124 cooperative technique. Students testtheir communication skills using roleplaying, simulated patients and conversation analysis. On the otherhand, to encourage the empathy we use the 6 hats technique, promoting the cooperative learning usingthe Jigsaw technique.We expect that this teaching designs helps to students who study Dentistry degree improving theircommunicative competence, as well as the use of these active learning techniques encourage their participationand satisfaction with the training.
