Abstract

The university is in the process of applying new educational methodologies. The most relevant consequences are the considerable increase in work for teachers and that the student becomes an active part of the process, being protagonist of their own learning. The process does not seem to be as immediate as a mere change of methodologies, and the results may take time to arrive according to the success of the innovations. Added to this is the fact that much of the success depends on the attitude of the students, who must assume the role of independent and responsible person for their own training. This paper shows the results of surveys carried out to try to know the motivation and preferences about the teaching methodology, their opinion about the difficulties and expectations they have regarding the subject. All of this with the challenge of motivating first-year students. Among the most striking conclusions, a high percentage of students have previous training of the subject, however, few consider to be well prepared. Also that the classical methods were preferable, that is, that the teacher explain and make examples in class and that the documentation is available on paper.
