Abstract

A multidisciplinary group has been launched for the analyze and study of the abundant bibliographic information of basque mining, firstly centered in the historic mining district of Bilbao. This study covers from geological knowledge to the history and mining evolution in that area, including the technological progress implemented in its exploration, exploitation, processing of minerals and transportation. This information will be complemented by field work, including updated and modern studies of mineralizations. As a starting point, the case of Mina Primitiva, a small-medium-sized mining concession located in the municipality of Bilbao (Biscay), at the W of its urban area, has been taken. The deep study of mentioned mine has revealed a greater size and importance than previously established. A summary of the most relevant and significant results obtained in this study, whose final objective is the dissemination of geology and mining history of this mine.
