Resumen
In this work we studied the micropaleontology of the sands of Valdearenas beach and adjacent dunes (Sonabia, Cantabria, Spain) with the aim of tracing the origin of the dunes. In both environments the benthic foraminiferal assemblages are dominated by Cibicidoides lobatulus, Rosalina globularis and Quinqueloculina seminula. Richness and diversity of these samples allow us to infer the direction of winds that dragged the source sands of dunes. Thus though the dominant wind today is from NW, we detected other wind directions, particularly from SE during colder times (Little Ice Age) and from NE, that were stronger in past times than today
