Abstract

The transdisciplinary project to enhance the value of Punta Begoña Galleries (Getxo, Bizkaia) includes, as one of its main axes, socialization (Damas-Mollá et al., 2019). In this sense, practical activities have been carried out for High School students, organised through the Basque Government’s Dpt. of Education and the UPV/EHU. The main goal is to raise awa- reness of the profession of geologist and its importance in today’s society, showing the work carried out by professionals from different specialities in a specific area. The galleries, built cultural heritage of the Basque Country, are characterised by their construction directly on the slope of a cliff (Morales et al., 2018). Workshops focus on the study of the geological context of the building and its visual basin (from present to past), on the stability of the slope and the building, as well as on the construction methods and materials used. To this end, a field notebook includes basic ideas and exercises related to geo- morphology, sedimentology and stratigraphy, tectonic processes, palaeontology, geotechnics, hydrogeology and petrology. Thus, students work on aspects included in the key ideas proposed for Earth Science literacy (Pedrinaci et al., 2013).
