Abstract

The study of instability processes in cliffs that present a special value is fundamental for an adequate management of this geological heritage. Novel work methodologies use modeling in the analysis of these processes at a broad scale (Sarro et al., 2018). However, this paper presents a proposal for the study and monitoring of these instabilities through a detailed charac- terization and modeling of rockfalls, which allows monitoring in a focused way each zone of the study area, located in the coastal cliffs of Zumaia, which are part of the Basque Coast Geopark (Gipuzkoa). In order to conserve the landscape value of this area, we work with minimally invasive and respectful management tools (Morales et al., 2021). This area attracts geotourism linked to the Geopark offer. Given the influx of more than 100,000 visitors each year, it is essential to address a series of actions to control and minimize risks, especially those related to rockfall (Crosta and Agliardi, 2004).
