Abstract

This work describes the design of a PBL experience in the field ofsustainability that has been carried out in the subject of Industrial Informatics.Industrial Informatics is a mandatory course taught in the third year of the B.Sc.degree in industrial electronics and automation engineering at the Faculty ofEngineering of Vitoria-Gasteiz (UPV/EHU). The proposed PBL experience addresses the design of a real application, based on open-source hardware platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi, aimed at monitoring comfort variables such as temperature and humidity in a distributed way, all over the Faculty. This activity was proposed in the framework of a broader project aimed at improving the sustainability of our University, namely aimed at monitoring the comfort conditions of the Faculty building as well as the performance of the heating system. Therefore, our students may gain experience by analyzing a real project. Also, it could help our students to realize that developing sustainability aimed projects may be a professional venue for their future professional development.
