Abstract

Recent discoveries of engravings of axes of a “Metgourine” type and several other metal weapons (halberds, daggers) in several artistic centres of Tiris, in the Southeast tip of the Western Sahara, constitute relevant data of the Atlas metallurgy influence in this area of Western Sahara; a presence which until now had been limited to the region of Saguia El Hamra, in the North of the territory. Despite the significant spatial distance between one context and the other, these common representations suggest the idea of a traffic route or cultural influence from the High Atlas zone towards the more southern areas of Western Sahara, which were probably active since the advanced phases in the second half of the 2nd millennium B.C
