Abstract
We present the work of two authors who have studied seriously the powerof imagination as a constitutive capacity of human being and of social reality:George Santayana and Cornelius Castoriadis. Belonging to different traditions,these thinkers agree on their proposal to revalue the creative powerof imagination, which connects through the “psyche” with the dynamism ofmatter, and in their ironic skepticism about the absolute nature of our values,that is, of our thought and of our reality.
