Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the influence of shared music practice in primary school children's perception of psychological wellbeing. To achieve this, we studied the implementation of a cooperative socio-educational music programme developed in a Spanish city's primary school. A deductive approach to thematic analysis based on Seligman's PERMA model was used after conducting focus groups with 65 children and in-depth semi-structured interviews with six teachers. The findings showed connections with the five elements of the PERMA model –positive emotions, engagement, positive relationships, meaning and achievements– and, accordingly, suggest the positive impact of group music-making in school programmes to enhance psychological wellbeing.
